In 1868, construction of the railway line from Michurinsk, then called Kozlov, to Tambov began. A little over a year later, the railway was put into operation, and the first trains started running on it. In 1870, a station building finally appeared in Tambov, which stood for almost 100 years. In 1969, the dilapidated building was reconstructed: a second floor was added, it was expanded and refurbished to meet modern standards.
Despite all the changes, the Tambov station has retained many elements of its pre-revolutionary architecture. The building's majestic and historic appearance is combined with a comfortable interior environment, which has everything necessary for a pleasant wait for a train: rest rooms, left-luggage facilities, a children's play area, etc.
